Jan 1st to the 6th -- a demanding storm to start the year.
Jan 7th to the 13th -- weaker, but challenging energies.
Jan 14th to the 17th -- a brief storm with a mental edge.
Jan 18th to the 24th -- weak, noisy transition period.
Jan 25th to the 31st -- a moderate storm to end the month.
An online ephemeris for the month is available. Check Current Transits, too.
When you look at the waveforms for January, you see a fairly typical month. There are a pair of moderately strong and well organized storms, both of brief duration, and the month ends on a rather weak and noisy storm. Much of the rest of the time consists of noisy transition energies of moderate strength that tend to change moods rapidly during the course of a day. Except for those storms, the waveforms give an impression that the world is out of joint, with the planets operating at cross purposes much of the time. That's mainly because the slow moving outer planets are split into two camps. Most of the storms are built upon the Uranus-Pluto square that is in its final months of activity. However, there's a second backbone of outer planets based on a Saturn-Neptune square that is just forming and doesn't really come unto its own until the fall. The moods of these different groups are quite distinct as we flip back and forth between them. I see 5 important shifts in the energy patterns this month.
Jan 1st to the 6th |
The 1st to the 6th is a moderately strong, well organized storm pattern, though it doesn't really get a head of steam until about the 3rd. The waveform varies in strength from 367 to 516 units, from quite limp to a reasonably powerful Koz Alert. The harmonics are a challenging mixture of H8, H24 and H48 -- not much of a silver lining here. The energies are mainly focused at 26-28, 2 and 11-13 degrees of each zodiac sign. Check to see if these places correspond to sensitive spots in your own birth chart. The Sun is going over Pluto and squaring Uranus on the 3rd; the full moon on the 4th makes it a T-Square. It's this group that is producing the peaks at 13 degrees. It essentially challenges your sense of who you are and what you stand for. Given the way Uranus and Pluto have been acting lately, people and circumstances around you are breaking down your old views like a wrecking ball. For people under this group's influence, it isn't a pleasant experience at all. This can come across as power struggles with others that undermine your position. (In rare circumstances, this could be a violence prone month at times.) The Sun, Mercury and Venus are contacting Saturn (and eventually Neptune) starting on the 4th. Saturn is difficult in an entirely different manner. He is the power of contraction and limitation, making it harder for you to express yourself freely on many levels. As storms go, this is a pretty difficult one.
Jan 7th to the 13th |
The 7th to the 13th is a noisy and volatile pattern. The waveform is in the 346 to 452 unit region -- weak to midlevel intensities. The harmonics consist of a fat H12, H48 and H24 -- a bit more positive and helpful, but not much. The main peaks drift from 4 to 8 degrees during this time; the 27, 15-19 and 11 degree regions are also active. Those drifting peaks are the result of the Sun, Mercury and Venus hitting Neptune after moving past Saturn. Neptune may be somewhat easier to handle than Saturn, but he can still leave you feeling confused, disoriented and lost in the ozone. Double check your facts and reasoning as they are probably riddled with misunderstandings. Even your gut level feelings may be unreliable. The other big show is the octile fan (based on 45 degree aspects) of Pluto, Mars and Uranus on the 9th and 10th. This is truly an explosive mixture, so be careful if danger is possible. At the very least, it might trigger a good argument. Egos are out of control.
Jan 14th to the 17th |
The 14th to the 17th is a brief storm when planets are working more closely than usual. The waveform is in the 372 to 498 unit range, moderately powerful. The harmonics include H4, H12, H24 and H48 -- that useful H12 is buried by the other harsher frequencies. The peaks are in the 14-18 and 1-4 degree regions. Most of this activity is Mercury and Venus contacting Uranus and Pluto again. At the level of thoughts and feelings, we are taking in disruptive influences that undermine you're typical ways of behaving with others. Stay open to ideas that challenge your point of view, though you may want to reserve judgment as to how useful these insights are until they've proved their worth. On the 15th, Mars squares Saturn, a warning that setbacks or arguments of some kind are likely. The Moon goes over Saturn the next day, further dampening the mood. This is a rather rocky period.
Jan 18th to the 24th |
The 18th to the 24th is a weak, noisy transition period. The waveform bops around between 326 and 428 units most of the time, hardly any power at all, but it does spike up to 474 briefly at one point. The harmonics are H48, a fat H12 and lots of noise -- weak, scattered, very distracting. Most of the energy is at 4-7 and 14-18 degrees of each sign. There's not much of a consistent thread tying together the energies of this time -- the overall mood changes quite frequently. The Mars-Neptune conjunction on the 19th is often an indication that your physical energy levels are down, your will power is constrained and your mood is frustrated. Some of this may clear up after the new moon on the 20th. Mercury goes retrograde on the 21st, clouding the thinking mind. The 21st and 22nd are an emotional roller coaster ride, as the Moon goes over Mercury (thinking), Venus (emotions), Neptune (deeper moods) and Mars (assertiveness) in quick order. It's hard to keep track of how you are feeling with so many rapid fire shifts. It helps to stay grounded and not get caught up in the soap operas.
Jan 25th to the 31st |
Finally, the 25th to the end of the month is a weak and noisy storm. The waveform varies in strength from 338 to 482 units. The harmonics are a fat H12, H24 and H48 -- somewhat constructive, but with many speed bumps along the way. The energies are focused at 12-17 and 4-7 degrees. Uranus and Pluto are active once more, getting attention from Mercury, Venus and Mars. Again, the deeper spiritual overhaul is being experienced on a number of personal levels at once, often in a disharmonious manner. Energies are most raw around the 29th and 30th, when Mars is the main trigger planet. Egos are big, tempers on a hair trigger, so be diplomatic when dealing with others. Mental confusion is the norm and situations don't make much sense. Relying on your intuition is not even a safe bet. Life is very changeable this week, so you have to get good at improvising on the fly. This pattern continues into early February.
