Energy Patterns for January 2014

Major Waveform Patterns:

Jan 1st to the 8th -- an over-the-top storm to start the year.
Jan 9th to the 15th -- a transition period with no "oomph!"
Jan 16th to the 19th -- the planets are coming together slowly.
Jan 20th to the 26th -- next storm is brewing.
Jan 27th to the 31st -- the other big storm.

An online ephemeris for the month is available. Check Current Transits, too.

The dominating planetary pattern in January and for many months to come is based on (you guessed it) the Uranus-Pluto square. They are joined by Mars and Jupiter in a potent Grand Cross pattern that persists until late spring due to the retrograde cycles for these bodies. Chiron is part of the same picture and Saturn adds his say from time to time. All it needs is a couple of faster moving planets moving through the same zodiac positions and we have some powerful storm activity. Of course, between these storms, it seems the bottom drops out from under us energetically. The middle of the month is quite wimpy and listless, with no particular direction. There are 5 main energy patterns to look at.

Jan 1st to the 8th

The 1st to the 8th is a continuation of the overwhelming planetary storm that kicked in at the end of December. Coming off of a low Koz Quake (601 units) on Dec 30, the waveform varies from 324 to 552 units during this first week of 2014. The harmonics in the graph include H4, H12, H24 and a touch of H48 -- tense, stressful and contentious energies. The emphasized areas of the zodiac include 10-14 and 17-22 degrees of each zodiac sign -- see where this hits your own birth chart. Starting right from the 1st, the Grand Cross energies are triggered into action by the Sun and Mercury on a repeated basis, making for a dramatic start to the year. The mood can be dark or strained much of the time, though some of these negative influences are balanced out by an opposition of the Sun and Jupiter on the 5th, two of the most upbeat planets around. Make a to-do list for the coming months and start whittling away at it when you get the time. The more of these items you get out of the way, the less oppressive life will be.

Jan 9th to the 15th

The 9th to the 15th is a long, weak and mostly amorphous transition period. The waveform cools off considerably, bounding around between 328 and 423 units -- not much "oomph!" here. The harmonics consist of H48, H12 and H24 -- scattered and unfocused energy that is full of distractions. The energies are most easily felt at 18-20, 2-3, 10 and 25 degrees of each sign. The good news is that the Grand Cross is quiet during this period, allowing other influences to peak through. The Sun, Venus, Saturn and Neptune appear to be the main players this week. This is an odd mixture of harsh and dreamy influences, as if our idealistic and practical sides are having trouble resolving their differences. It's easy to bounce around from one task to another without getting much accomplished in the end, given the scattered nature of these energies. Slow down and focus as much as is possible on a simple chore or two, avoiding getting caught up in the distractions. Emotions are close to the surface now, though they may not be a reliable guide to what's going on.

Jan 16th to the 19th

The 16th to the 19th is a consolidation phase when these scattered forces begin to get organized and show some direction again. The waveform is still on the weak side, ranging from 323 to 454 units. The harmonics are a mixture of H24, H12, H4 and H48 -- more focus, but a bit on the challenging side as the Grand Cross starts to assert itself once more. The emphasized areas are mostly at 9-14 degrees. Mercury appears to be the main trigger planet during this period, so you may find ideas and intuitions flooding your mind and demanding attention. It's good to write these ideas down or give them some kind of permanent form so they don't slip away from you, but I'd avoid acting on them right away as much of this mental flow is not ready for prime-time yet. Let them simmer awhile until you can determine which of these nuggets are worth keeping.

Jan 20th to the 26th

The 20th to the 26th is a weak storm that is struggling to get organized. The waveform isn't showing much strength yet, hanging out in the 315 to 454 unit region, so we aren't experiencing much of a tailwind for our efforts. The harmonics are a fat H4, with lots of H24 and H48 -- difficult, challenging, somewhat scattered. The hot spots are 12-14, 6-7 and 20-22 degrees of each sign. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of a core group of planets that is speaking clearly now, although Mercury shows up frequently. Try to make sense of a confusing situation that is lacking a consistent theme or direction. This is still a low key time, so don't push yourself too strongly.

Jan 27th to the 31st

Finally, the 27th to the end of the month is the second big storm of the month. The waveform rapidly grows in strength, reaching 370 to 511 unit levels -- we've got some energy backing up our efforts once more. The harmonics are H4, H24 and H12 as the Grand Cross (minus Mars for the time being) reasserts itself. Most of the power is focused at 11-12 and 27 degrees. The sky is quite active again, with the Sun, Mercury and Venus all drawing in the outer planet forces into our lives. The 30th is a potent new moon that kicks off lots of activity for us all. The 31st has both a "big aspect" between Jupiter and Pluto and the Venus direct station, so some major shifts are in the air now. The mood is a bit more positive and upbeat these days, despite the difficulties packed into the Grand Cross. It's time to kick off new activities, but realize there might be some roadblocks along the way that you need to take in stride. This pattern continues into early February.
