Jan 1st to the 2nd -- a New Year's transition period.
Jan 3rd to the 12th -- the first phase of a long storm pattern.
Jan 13th to the 21st -- shifting harmonics, still a storm.
Jan 22nd to the end of the month -- harsher, but cooling off.
An online ephemeris for the month is available.
The usual pattern of storms alternating with transition periods doesn't seem to apply well to January. The month resembles one long storm more than anything else, even thought there is a lot of variation in strength, harmonics and basic shape of the waveforms as the storm evolves. As we saw for much of 2011, the backbone of this waveform is a large grouping of outer planets that has been remarkably persistent for many months. Currently, this group consists of Saturn opposite Jupiter, trine Neptune and Chiron, and quincunx Uranus; only Pluto stands on the sidelines. The faster moving inner planets, the ones that trigger the backbone into action, are rather disorganized in comparison. The Sun, Mercury and Venus act as triggers one at a time for the most part. This prevents the waveforms from becoming truly overwhelming in intensity (thank you!), but it also means we don't get any transition periods so we can rest up. Notice Mars is not a big aspect maker this month as it goes retrograde on the 23rd. The changes from one energy pattern to another show up mostly as subtle changes in the harmonics, not the intensity levels. Despite my talking about 4 separate patterns, you're excused if it feels to you like one long storm.
Jan 1st to the 2nd |
The 1st to the 2nd is the end of a transition period that started around Christmas. The energies are generally on the milder side, varying in strength from an anemic 382 units to a high of 481 units. The harmonics are a complex and noisy mixture of H6, H12, H48 and some H36 -- mostly positive, but with a stressful undertone that mucks things up. The waveform is concentrating its influence at 29, 10 and 20 degrees of each zodiac sign -- see where this hits your own birth chart. Seeing as this is the chart for the new year, such quiet may seem desirable. The biggest influence these days is the conjunction of the Sun and Pluto, which was exact on Dec 29. There's a heavy, difficult mood in the air that brings subtle conflicts or overwhelms to the surface. If you're having problems currently, that conjunction is the likely source. Otherwise, the energies are somewhat weak and scattered. Relax a bit yet as the holiday season draws to a close -- it gets busy soon enough.
Jan 3rd to the 12th |
The first phase of the big storm lasts from the 3rd to the 12th. The energy levels in the waveform pick up, ranging from 384 to 542 units, a sizable Koz Alert. The harmonics include H6, H12, H24 and H48 -- constructive gains are paid for in minor frustrations. The energies are focused at 29-30 (right at the end of each sign) and 15 degrees. Those crisp looking peaks at the end of each sign are the mark of the outer planet grouping. They are presently being triggered into action by Mercury, which lies halfway between Saturn and Neptune, forming a sextile fan. This is probably a good time for some sort of mental work, as long as it doesn't require too much attention to detail. It might be easier to focus after the 8th, when Mercury goes into Capricorn. The strongest Alert in this period falls on the afternoon of the 7th.
Jan 13th to the 21st |
The 13th to the 21st is a kind of transitional pattern as the harmonics shift, but it's still plenty powerful. The waveform is in the 399 to 553 unit region -- plenty of "oomph!" here. The harmonics consist of a familiar blend of H6, H12 and H48 -- positive, but scattered and noisy. The peaks are across the cusps from 29 degrees of one sign to about 1 degree of the next. The first half of this period is triggered by Venus connecting with the outer planets, while the Sun takes over that job around the 19th. The impact of the storm is felt in relationships and at an emotional level, which may eventually spill over into more personal, self-image issues. The main difference between this period and the rest of the storm is a matter of harmonics, not strength. There's no rest period here. Keep up a slow and steady pace that you can maintain and don't take annoyances personally. It's just life at a faster pace.
Jan 22nd to the end of the month |
Finally, the 22nd to the end of the month is the last phase of this storm. The waveform goes from 337 to 543 units -- quite a spread of intensity levels. The harmonics are H12, H4, H24 and H48 -- harsher frequencies are crowding out the more constructive ones. The peaks are at 0-2 and 15 degrees of each sign. As the Sun's influence wanes, Venus and then Mercury become the next triggers. The emergence of a powerful 4th harmonic is a hint that life is becoming more challenging and demanding, so don't expect easy results these days. The storm finally begins to fall apart around the 30th. January ends on a quiet note once more...
