Energy Patterns for December 2001

Major Waveform Patterns:

Dec 1st to the 6th -- a major storm of Pluto energy.
Dec 7th to the 17th -- a slow, disorganized time.
Dec 18th to the 23rd -- the "giant" regroups.
Dec 24th to the 27th -- a brief pause in the action.
Dec 28th to the end of the month -- gearing up for a huge New Year's storm.

An online ephemeris for the month is available.

December is pretty much ""in the middle" without any major extremes in the basic energies. I see 5 main energy patterns at work this month in a classic cycle of mild planetary storms followed by quieter, more chaotic times. However, the highs aren't all that towering and the lows aren't that deep -- we just keep plodding right along most of the time. There's a hint of laziness in the air (with a strong 36th harmonic in the background), which probably suits the holiday spirit quite nicely -- don't push matters too strongly now.

Dec 1st to the 6th

The 1st to the 6th is the first planetary storm of the month, bringing out the energies of "the giant" (the Saturn-Jupiter-Pluto pattern) once again. The waveform ranges in strength from 360 units to 544 on the 5th -- enough power to get our attention without bowling us over (hopefully). The harmonics include H12, H24, H6 and H48 -- mostly helpful frequencies, although life can get a bit stressful or demanding at times. The peaks in these graphs mostly emphasize 10-14 degrees and 26-28 degrees of each zodiac sign -- check where this hits your own birthchart. The backbone of this storm is the Sun and Mercury passing over Pluto around the 5th and 6th, activating the giant one more time. My gut level feeling about this week is that it may be the most difficult time all month, the pleasant harmonics not withstanding. Pluto is unusually active now, which can bring all sorts of hidden, unconscious factors into the open, often with very dramatic outcomes. Just remember to avoid acting on your first impressions, giving yourself some time and space to look at situations from a second or third perspective. If you find yourself flying off the handle or in some highly emotional state, pay attention to what's coming up from inside you instead of looking for problems on the outside. It's often the case that problems come from the way we're looking at circumstances (not the circumstances themselves) -- this is never more true than when Pluto is talking!

It doesn't take much staring at this graph to notice something big is going on. Especially that big colored blob of planets underneath the peak in Sagittarius. Mercury and the Sun are about to go over Pluto, triggering the giant into action in what seems like an endless procession of appearances for this planetary group. I'd watch out for this one, given that Pluto is so active. I've frequently noticed that Sun-Pluto conjunctions can be very challenging. It seems to magnify our fears and cautions, bringing our most hidden trouble areas up from the unconscious and into the open. In short, people tend to flip out about now. If situations get sticky with others now, call a time out and talk over the issues. It may be that the problem is way in the past and has little to do with current circumstances. Avoid butting heads, since people may unwittingly go for the jugular, even if they don't mean to. Use this time to gain insight, not "score points" with each other. Take things slowly -- this is not an easy energy to surf.

Dec 7th to the 17th

The 7th to the 17th is a long meandering, disorganized period. The waveform cools off to the 320 to 440 unit region -- there's no sense of urgency going on now. The harmonics consist of a noisy mixture of H36 ("fat, dumb, and happy"), H12, H24 and H48 -- lackadaisical and unfocused, hard to sustain an effort. The main emphasis is at 12-16, 6 and 20 degrees. Feelings tend to dominate over the intellect now, as Venus replaces the Sun and Mercury in the main pattern. There may also be a lighter mood due to Uranus and Neptune being active. Let a sense of quirky buoyancy guide you these days -- you can feel your way through the detours and potholes easier than you can plan ahead for the unexpected. Above all, take things in stride and don't get worked up about circumstances that are simply passing noise in your life. The 36th harmonic can produce a mood of acceptance and ease that borders on "I don't care...", but it's a joy-of-living that we could all cultivate these days. Love relations may take some odd turns now -- be patient with each other.

Dec 18th to the 23rd

The 18th to the 23rd is another mild storm. The waveform is somewhat less intense this time around, mostly in the 370 to 493 unit region. The harmonics are a bit on the stressful and demanding side, but with its lighter moments as well. The emphasized areas are mainly 6-10 and 25-27 degrees. Once again, the giant springs into action, supported by Mercury and Mars. That indicates a good time for mental activity, but only if there is some physical, down-to-earth outlet for it all. It's excellent for solitary work that requires a lot of "oomph" and drive. On the downside, the Mars-Saturn-Pluto T-square that is formed here is a tough influence, particularly if you have to work with other people. It's all too easy for people to lose their patience with each other or to engage in manipulative power plays. (This T-square continues the rest of the month.)

Dec 24th to the 27th

The 24th to the 27th is a weakening of the storm and not a "true" transition period in my mind. The waveform is noisy, but maintains its organized appearance, indicating that the planetary patterns are simply catching their breath. These graphs are only slightly weaker and the harmonics are pretty much the same as the last period. The most emphasized area is 12-13 degrees of each zodiac sign -- the giant is only snoozing. There's not much happening astrologically these days, so it's probably a good time to just kick back with family and enjoy the holidays. Avoid touchy subjects, since that T-square is still active and old family patterns can sometimes spiral out of control.

Dec 28th to the end of the month

Finally, the 28th to the end of the month shows the storm picking up steam once again. The waveform moves into the low Koz Alert region, hitting the 370 to 510 unit range (and this is only the start!). The harmonics are a strong H12 and H36 -- powerful, constructive energies if you can stay focused. The main peaks are at 8 and 27 degrees. The end of the year and the start of 2002 hits a loud note, as if to wake us up to some new possibilities. All the outer planets are especially active now, so circumstances may seem to take on a life of their own as people's unconscious motives crawl out of their caves. Try to stay calm and steady, even when others are getting loopy. The 30th may be particularly demanding, between a lunar eclipse and the square between Mars and Pluto -- don't get drawn into angry situations. This storm only intensifies during the first few days of January, hitting the high Alert regions (over 580 units!), so get ready for a ride!
