Energy Patterns for February 2001

Major Waveform Patterns:

Feb 1st to the 3rd -- a continuation of the end-of-Jan lull.
Feb 4th to the 15th -- one long, difficult almost-storm.
Feb 16th to the 17th -- time to catch your breath briefly.
Feb 18th to the 23rd -- part 1 of the next storm pattern.
Feb 24th to the end of the month -- part 2 of the storm is much gentler.

An online ephemeris for the month is available.

The A5 Spectrum is highly changeable and disorganized most of the time, making it hard to decipher the bigger patterns this month. However, there appear to be 5 main waveforms to discuss. What little storm activity that shows up is pretty low key and never reaches whirlwind proportions. The downside of this is an overall feeling of sluggishness that permeates the month.

Feb 1st to the 3rd

The 1st to the 3rd is a continuation of the transition period that closed out January. The waveform shows no "oomph" at all, lounging around in the 320 to 420 unit region of the graph. The harmonics are mostly scattered and stressful, mostly, but sometimes decent. When the waveform shows some kind of focus, it's around 2 or 23 degrees of each zodiac sign -- see where this hits your birthchart. This is probably a lousy time to kick off any new projects, especially with Mercury slipping into Pisces and then hitting its retrograde station on the 3rd. Due to lack of planning or attention to details, it seems anything that can go wrong will. Mars opposite Saturn on the 3rd is also a harbinger of bad news and difficulties. If you can lie low or even take some time off, you'll likely be much better off. Back up the hard-drive on your computer before the 3rd -- don't tempt fate.

Feb 4th to the 15th

The 4th to the 15th is one long attempt at making a planetary storm pattern. The waveform is of moderate energy, but not overwhelming. The harmonics are distinctly troublesome. There are fat, prominent peaks around 24 degrees of each fixed zodiac sign (creating the H4), and a lesser emphasis at 4 degrees of each sign. A 4th harmonic in the waveform is a symptom of underlying squares and oppositions, the most difficult aspects in all of astrology. The charts for this period are loaded with T-squares and other blockbuster patterns that promise to shake things up and overturn your plans. It may trigger some old problem areas of the last 2 years, especially around the full moon on the 8th (which reignites some old eclipse points). Pay attention to the troubles coming up and encounter them very consciously. They are indications of life areas that you haven't fully mastered yet or let go of, if that is needed. This is particularly the case if you have planets in your birthchart around 24 degrees, since the areas of your life symbolized by those planets are very prone to challenges now. For all the power in this waveform, it's peculiarly chaotic looking, hinting at a lot of "behind the scenes influences" that can knock you off course. Make the most of the energy present, but move slowly and carefully.

The 4 tallest peaks in this graph form an impressive 4th harmonic waveform. In conventional terms, H4 means squares and oppositions, the most difficult of the well-known aspects. This pattern is formed by a potent T-square configuration, with Mars opposite Saturn and both square a tight cluster of planets, Uranus, the Sun and Mercury. Chiron and Juno are also part of this picture. And when the Moon bops through 24 degrees of Libra about 10:30 CST in the morning, the whole mixture boils over into a low Koz Alert (504 units), probably the most powerful waveform all month. T-squares are challenging enough as is, but any time you have Mars and Saturn beating on each other, it can get pretty rough for us here on earth. The trick is to maintain a broad perspective, looking at the situation from a high mental perspective, instead of getting caught up in negative or "stuck" feelings. Since this T-square is in fixed signs, people are apt to be stubborn and set in their ways, so there may not be much flexibility or compromise to draw on. Appeal to people's better sides and the common good, if you want to make allies. On the bright side, this is a good time for slow and steady disciplined effort, as long as it's guided by a higher image of what is to be done. There may be obstacles along the way, but eventually you'll see good results.

Feb 16th to the 17th

The 16th to the 17th is a brief transition period between the so-called storms. With a strength of 330 to 390 units, there's no power to speak of in this pattern. The harmonics are mostly H48 and H6, with a lot of "noise" thrown in -- the energy is scattered and very chaotic. Occasionally, some peaks at 8 or 23 degrees emerge through the haze. Fortunately, this is only a two day period, because you won't get too much done now. Avoid conflicts and power issues with others, since Pluto is active now and tends to bring out everybody's worst sides. Get some rest and get ready for the next period coming up.

Feb 18th to the 23rd

The 18th to the 23rd is part one of the next storm pattern. It's still moderate energy, ranging between 350 and 450 units. The harmonics are a rough mixture of H24, H48 and H8, so don't get your hopes up about this week. The peaks at 3 and 18 degrees of each zodiac sign are the most prominent. Despite the main underlying pattern (a T-square) being a generally difficult one, the planets that make it up (Mars, Sun, Jupiter, with help from Neptune) are energized and upbeat. That should minimize the rough harmonics a bit, but don't get cocky. You may inadvertently find yourself spreading your energies too thin, or causing trouble by a misjudgment of some kind, so act thoughtfully and pace yourself. If you plan on a few speedbumps now and then, this could actually turn out to be a useful time.

Feb 24th to the end of the month

There's a subtle shift in the energies for the 24th to the end of the month, leading to part two of the storm. The waveform cools off in intensity a bit to the 340 to 400 unit range. The harmonics make a dramatic shift to an H36, H6 and H5 combination, perhaps the most positive mixture we've seen all month. The main points of emphasis are near 6 and 15 degrees. I usually call the 36th harmonic the "fat, dumb and happy wavelength". It represents energy that is somewhat scattered and unfocused, since it's operating at a mostly unconscious level that fails to go smoothly. However, it's also a pleasant, laid back energy, so the rough spots are no big deal. It's a good time to putter away at your favorite projects, just as long as you aren't overly committed to lots of immediate results. The energy is fairly light and easy going, overall, with the Mercury direct station on the 25th being the most troublesome influence. This waveform is slowly fading as we move into March.
